My fiancé (Cameron) and I (Michele - pronounced like Michelle) are a South African couple living in Malta, and we’re traveling to South Africa in December to get married and spend the holiday season with our families. We have two beloved cats who, unfortunately, can't join us on this trip.
When we adopted our cats, they had experienced significant trauma, and it has taken nearly eight months for them to feel comfortable with us. Uprooting them for three weeks now doesn't feel right, so we’re seeking a trustworthy and caring house/cat sitter.
Responsibilities:
- Feed our cats in the mornings and evenings.
- Clean their litter boxes at least once a week.
- Allow them out of the bedroom to play in the house and their catio (a custom-built play area on the balcony).
About Our Home and Area:
- Location: We live in Qormi, a charming area with all the amenities you might need.
- Supermarkets: Pavi and Lidl, both within walking distance (about 1.3km away).
- Transport: There’s a bus stop about 100m from our front door (in either direction). Buses from these stops travel to Valletta, the capital city, which has a bus terminal with connections to most of the island.
- Internet: Standard Wi-Fi capped at 400GB.
- Climate Control: There is an AC unit in the living area and one in the main bedroom, where you’ll be sleeping. We also have a gas heater if you prefer not to use the AC for heating.
Due to a recent incident in Malta where a pet went missing under a sitter's care, we are particularly concerned about our cats' safety. Therefore, we require someone with impeccable references and reviews.
Important Notes:
- Our home is equipped with cameras in the hallways and living area for security. There are no cameras in the bedrooms or bathrooms. If this is an issue, please do not apply.
- We are unable to afford a kennel, and we prefer not to place our cats in one to avoid distressing them.
Additional Information:
- Dates: We fly out on the 29th of November at around 19:30, so we would need the sitter to either come the day before to pick up keys or come early on the 29th to pick up keys. We arrive back in Malta on the 31st of December, in the morning, so no need to be there on the 31st. We can also talk about logistics closer to the time!
- Dietary Needs: No medical or dietary requirements, just a specific feeding regime (wet food and some pellets in water in the morning, and dry pellets at night).
- House Maintenance: Handle urgent issues only; otherwise, please wait until we return.
- Communication: Preferred method is WhatsApp voice and video calls.
- Emergency Contact: Our landlord, Nino, is available for urgent issues. He is very friendly but not very fluent in English.
- Catio Instructions: None, just enjoy!
- Cat Care Instructions: Detailed instructions on the cats' daily routine and preferences will be provided.
