We moved to Mexico in May 2022 and absolutely LOVE it here! We are all settled in here now in our little paradise but now we want to do dome travelling. First of all my husbands mom has dementia and its getting worse. We want to go see her while she still remembers us. That would be about a day trip and we would like to go sometime in February. Secondly, we would like to start travelling Mexico to see more of this beautiful country and that can happen anytime. We have a oretty flexible schedule. We are looking for a house sittter for our beautiful and serene ranch just outside of the Historical town of Atotonilco near San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. We would also be interested in a home exchange.
The ranch is about 2 acres beautifully landscaped and is walking distance to the historic town of Atotonilco. The local church, the Santuario de Atotonilco is known as the Sistene Chapel of Mexico due to it;s beautiful murals and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ranch is usually pretty quiet but as in all of Mexico, there are times when you will here music playing from a fiesta, church bells, or fireworks.
The property is 20 minutes from the center of San Miguel de Allende. There are 2 hot springs/spas very nearby, La Gruta and Escondido Place that you can enjoy for the day for a very reasonable price. There is a car available for your use if you want to drive into San Miguel, or there is a bus that stops in Atotonilco every hour if you're not comfortable driving in Mexico.
We have four Frenchtons which are a mix of Boson Terrier and French Bulldogs. They like to sleep in bed with you and they are burrowers so they often sleep under the covers. You must really love dogs and want to snuggle with them. We have a male and female that are "mom" and "dad" and their two puppies who arenow (as of Jan. 2023) 5 months old. They are all super sweet and cuddly but all but one sometimes take a few minutes to warm up to new people. We also have a shy Mexican street dog that we rescued and a Great Pyrenese/Anatolian Shepherd dog that is a huge sweetheart.
Daily Duties would include daily caring for and feeding a 4-6 dogs (depending on if we take 2 dogs with us), a 2 cats, and feeding 9 horses every morning. Saturdays would include feeding the horses dinner, and Sundays would include cleaning the horse corrals and feeding dinner to the horses as well. There are 3 employees at the ranch. One cleans corrals and makes sure the horses have clean water to drink monday thru Friday, one cares for the horses and rides and exercisesthem, and the other one does yard and grounds maintenance. They are there Monday thru Friday and our horse guy (caballarango) is there for a half day on Saturday.
We would prefer someone with a little horse experience and who speaks some Spanish to stay while we are gone and take care of the horses, dogs and cats. If you have lots of experience riding and/or training horses that would be a plus. Several of the horses can be ridden and would love the exercise. There's miles and miles of trails and our caballarango will go with you and show you the way!
Thank you for taking the time to consider our place.
