We are hiking in the Tassie wilderness for 10 days, and are looking for a friendly, reliable type to look after our cat Thom, our two chickens Nancy and Golda, and water our veggie gardens. We are in a very quiet cul de sac, backing onto Knocklofty Reserve. It’s a peaceful place, with lots of places outside to read on the grass and enjoy the trees. We are walking distance to the West Hobart corner store, Pigeon Hole cafe, and Hill St Grocer.
Our cat is very friendly and easy going. He only needs to be let out in the morning and brought in at night, kept with water inside and out, and talked to. The chickens are just as simple, they wander the block during the day, so they simply need to be put in their pen at night and let out in the morning. The bonus is they’ll give you lovely eggs to eat! Laying at about 3 every two days at the moment. There are pademelons and the odd wallaby on the block too, which are lovely to see around.
The garden is pretty small, we just have some veggies that need water kept up to them over the 10 days we’re away, and some indoor plants that might benefit from the odd water.
It’s a very easy gig. We decided to look into housesitting because there are dogs around, which don’t mix well with independent chickens or cats. It’d be great if someone was up for a tree-change in Hobart.
This would suit one or two people, who like a quiet life in the trees. Great for birds, mammals and walking, with Knocklofty in easy proximity. There’s lots of room for cars or vans. We have an unusually big block in close proximity to the city.
