2+ Weeks with Smooth Fox Terrier on Bainbridge Island, WA
~ October 3 to October 19, 2016 ~
Looking for someone with experience as a petsitter: responsible, clean, and conscientious, who will send regular photos and updates by . Willing and able to walk a small dog and look after her wellbeing. Absolutely no smoking or drugs.
Please let me know what experience you have with terriers and neurotic dogs!
Responsibilities
Care of a needy and sensitive eight-year-old Smooth Fox Terrier. Firefly is a Velcro dog who likes to climb into your lap and sleep by you on the bed. (Underneath her own blanket.)
She has traveled internationally herself by car, train, bus, ferry, cruise ship, and plane. She is trained, walks well on leash, and is well adjusted to just about any situation. Unless you throw a ball for her, or bring out certain toys. Then she becomes a maniac who will attack other dogs and bark at people incessantly over her prize. As long as you don't throw a ball, she's pretty lovely.
She is on an AM/PM seizure medication pill and has been seizure-free since starting it. So fingers crossed.
Property and Location
Firefly lives in a two-bed, one-bath apartment on beautiful Bainbridge Island, a 35-minute ferry ride west of Seattle. At your doorstep and across the street are restaurants, a small grocery store, a historic movie theater, a public beach and walking trail, a few shops, and a bakery.
Also on the Island, you will find hundreds of acres of public parks and trails, beaches, forests, and open spaces like Fay Bainbridge, The Grand Forest, Battle Point Park, and Gazzam Lake. Winslow, the main downtown, boasts excellent restaurants, shopping, two grocery stores, and many attractions such as Bainbridge Performing Arts and museums.
Within a short drive or ferry ride are Seattle and the historic town of Poulsbo. Farther afield are regional places of interest like Port Gamble, Port Townsend, and the Olympic National Park.
The apartment itself is very straightforward. A cramped space, way too many books, but not too tiny. Simple to maintain.
Additional Information
Note Firefly lives on the third floor and needs to be escorted up/down two flights of stairs each time she goes out. (This is not an open the door into the backyard property.)
The guest room has a queen bed and the stay would be suitable for up to two people.
There is WiFi, but no cable and no landline. Also, horrible cell reception. You can usually get it out in the parking lot, but not inside (although some people can). If you need over Internet this would not be a good stay.
Also please note, although you could theoretically manage without a car here, it would be inadvisable! The main busses only run on a commuter schedule and only into Winslow.
Firefly can be left alone for your activities, with enough walks and lap time, but she is also happy to go with you. If left too much, such as back-to-back long days, she will spend her time alone howling—which is not enjoyed by neighbors.
We look forward to hearing from you!
