We're looking for a house sitter in July. The beginning of the sit could start as early as July 3rd or as late as July 14th and last about a week.
See the pictures for the quick overview. We have an 80 yr old farm house in the country. We have a vineyard, a fruit and olive orchard, and peace and quiet. Beautiful views in all directions if you like country living. It's not for everyone.
We have a few of the typical amenties: solid 4G Internet signal for Verizon and ATT, but I'm not sure about the less popular networks. HDTV with blu ray DVD, but no cable or satellite. There's an antenna that grabs a couple of HD signals from San Luis Obispo - most of the time. Apple TV so if you have IOS devices (ipad, iphn , macbook etc) you can use Airplay and broadcast to the TV.
The home is a work in progress. It's got great bones, but like many 80 years olds, a few wrinkles as well. It's a small house - 2 bedroom, 1 bath (small shower, separate tub), pretty standard kitchen. No house phn on a traditional land line. No central air or heat. In July you won't need the heater. We have a whole house fan that cools the house off nicely once the temp drops, which is typically about 6pm in July. We're 15 miles inland from the coast and each night it cools off to upper 40s or 50s. The days in July will likely be in the 90s. If you can't wait until evening to cool off jump in the car and head over to Big Sur. Taking the scenic route through Fort Hunter Liggett and over the Santa Lucia range will get your feet in the water in 1 hour. We can recommend some nice beaches and places to eat. Once you hit Hwy 1 you can go north to Carmel or Monterey or turn south to Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo and points beyond.
Paso Robles is 50 minutes away down 101. It has a great park downtown with lots of restaurants all within walking distance. King City is the closest grocery store at 25 minutes from the house. There are a couple of places for gas and limited groceries about 20 minutes from the house.
If you like country living then our place may be just the getaway you're looking for. If you prefer the convenience of city life then our home is not where you want to house sit.
The pets are all wonderful of course. Zoey is a very sweet boxer. Ellie is still a puppy in some respects. Both are extremely lovable animals. Chloe is shy but once she warms up to you she'll try to get in your lap every time you sit on the sofa. Don't worry, she can take no for an answer. Dixie is a sweet dog but very old. We haven't decided whether we'll leave her at home or board her. It mostly depends on your tolerance for old dogs.
I've tried not to over sell the opportunity. In reality, for us, it's heaven on earth and we'd never want to live anywhere else. Still, we know not eveyone shares the same tastes and dreams. Hopefully you can see some of the charm in the pictures and may be curious enough to ask a few questions.
