Looking for a trustworthy house sitter/caretaker for a remote location in Lake Clark National Park. Only accessible by airplane, this position offers a quiet escape of an off the grid lifestyle, while still offering the amenities and comforts of normal every day life. The core responsibility of the sitter is mainly to provide a human presence and to keep the lodge systems running such as water, heat, etc. The place is self functioning and runs off of a generator and solar panels that charge a battery bank for power. For those interested in additional maintenance and projects, we can consider additional pay depending on ability and project performance.
In addition to lodging and utilities being included, we’ll will provide food for your core diet during the stay as well as a monthly stipend (special order food items are additional). We will arrange for a delivery every 3-5 weeks of fresh food, mail, and any other necessities. The friendly outdoor lodge dog might be staying there as well, otherwise there are no other animals. There is limited internet access and local cell coverage so you can stay connected to family/friends during your stay. There is also a small library filled with books, many games and puzzles, and activities such as cross country skiing or snow-shoeing to keep you entertained. And don't forget the amazing opportunity to view the Northern Lights and take in some breathtaking Alaska scenery.
Please note, we do have some taxidermied Alaskan species so those who are uncomfortable about this should not apply. You also must be comfortable being isolated from in person contact for extended periods of time and able to do problem solving. Basic comfort and understanding with appliance use and troubleshooting is necessary and some good old common sense is a must. All systems will be thoroughly gone over and a caretaker reference book will be at your disposal before the owners leave. Couples will be considered and all applicants must be prepared to supply references and a background check (if required). Owners may pass through short stays during the time frame.
