I live in a 1908 heritage home in Salmon Arm, with a fenced back yard area for my two shelties. The house has all major appliances, is situated on .5 acre lot with heritage trees. I am not looking for a house sitter, but my shelties need a dog-sitter. Live-in is ideal for the dogs. They were rescued years ago, have settled in very well (are about 11 and 9 years old), beautiful dogs. Still somewhat timid with people they don't know. They are very well-adjusted, considering where they came from. Typically I take them out 5 times each day. A short walk in the morning, a longer walk for the younger dog in the afternoon. Otherwise, I take them out for pee breaks. They can be in their fenced back yard for short periods of time, but then either need to come inside (if the weather is not good), or can be with their care-giver in the yard or on the porch if the weather is fine. (Limited backyard time because they bark quite a lot when left outside alone.) These are not inside dogs, having spent their lives on a farm in an outside pen. They sleep in kennels at night in the basement and make no sound at all until I get them up in the morning. They venture into the kitchen sometimes when I am working there, but otherwise, they are in the basement. A live-in dog-sitter is ideal because these dogs, while they stay mainly in the basement, are also quite social. They like to know there is someone else in the house. They do howl (sing) most days for a short period of time. The older dog has a front leg deformity in both legs which limits her ability to walk very far, hence she typically has one walk of about 6 blocks each morning and then brief outings as stated earlier. The older one also gets milk thistle capsules twice daily with her food, and also Recovery mixed into a bit of liver paste (I make it and keep it in the freezer). I think of these dogs as high-maintenance, although now that we have our routine, they are really no trouble. They can be left some days for 4 or 5 hours without problem. I have left them once for 8 hours, without an accident. Because these dogs were (outside) farm dogs, they sometimes have accidents (stress-related), which is another reason I never leave them unattended in the upstairs, main part of the house. I am hoping to find someone who would like to spend some time in Salmon Arm. The Shuswap is a vacation destination, very lovely with all manner of outdoor activities available, as well as Shuswap Lake. Ideally you would be happy to exchange living in my home at no charge while I am away, with taking care of the dogs. My home is very much a retreat, for someone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing place to have a get-away: meditation, writing or simply just regrouping. No smokers, no pets (other than my dogs), someone who enjoys and appreciates heritage homes and recognizes that they require gentle care. If you have any questions, please just ask me. Thank you for your interest. Presently, I need someone to look after my dogs for one week, March 10 to 20, while I am in Victoria, BC, helping my daughter for the birth of her baby. There are lovely cross-country ski trails a short drive away and excellent walking trails to downtown and around where I live, although they can get a bit icy in the late spring.

I had a housecarer booked to assist as above, but she just cancelled for medical reasons.

Thank you.

Maureen
