We are a retired, mature (54 & 62) gay male couple, seeking a mature, responsible couple to look after our two much loved 11 year old dogs, and to house-sit our character 3 bedroom weatherboard cottage in West Hobart, one of the City's premium suburbs. It is in easy walking distance to the City, the beautiful waterfront & Salamanca market.
We will be in Europe from 18th May 2014 for almost 6 weeks, returning June 27th,the start date allows a couple of days for "changeover/ familiarisation" before we leave.
We have recently bought an early 1900's detached weatherboard cottage in Hobart and we plan to move into it permanently once our main residence is sold. The cottage requires some renovation as it is a little "tired" but it is still comfortable and we believe it would still be a lovely house for house-sitters to be in....we will make sure that it is!It is not luxury living but still offers a great deal to those who would like to experience life in Hobart!
Hobart has great shopping, restaurants, museums, concerts, theatre, cinemas, markets, festivals, the waterfront, stunning scenery & the now world-famous "MONA" (Museum of Old and New Art). You will get to experience everything that living in a small City, in a stunning location, offers its' inhabitants!
Our "babes" are in-house dogs! We have a small female short-haired cross terrier(11kgs) & a larger male long-haired cross terrier(22kgs),they may have uncertain "pedigrees" but they are very well behaved and very loving and loveable. A small but important point to make is that, as in many parts of the world, dog droppings must be collected and properly disposed of, so any house-sitter should be happy to comply with this please.
You will find having your own transport useful however, we may be able to consider offering you our car if you are a brilliant driver, have appropriate references, a full licence and can supply a police check for us to see. We would then ask that you drop us at the airport and pick us up on our return. The airport is about 15mins drive to the east. We would similarly be very happy to collect our house-sitters who may be flying in and also take them back to the airport at the end of the house-sit.
It can get cold in Tasmania but we generally experience a temperate, maritime climate - unless the southerlies are blowing directly from Antarctica! Generally our temperatures are usually within 2-3C of Melbourne's. The timing of our trip is not during the coldest part of winter,July & August are usually the coldest, but you may well see snow on top of Mount Wellington which towers over Hobart.
We have sufficient electric panel heaters to keep you warm at night and it is rare for the daily maximum not to reach at least 10C even in mid-winter!! On sunny winter days if there is only light wind it is very mild.
This is the third time we have looked for house-sitters, the other times it has been a wonderful success for us, the dogs and the house-sitters!We are doing it for our dogs who we know would be happier with you for company, and staying at home rather than at the kennels - they are really no trouble although they are set in their little routines! We think you'll love them as much as we do!!
