We require a cat lover to look after Millie for 3 months while we are in the UK.
Must be non-smoking single or couple, and able to commit for 3 month duration of the assignment.
We are looking for a mature, responsible animal lover who will care for our cat and 7 free-range chickens.
We don't have a cat flap so you must be happy to open and close the door when she wants to come in or go out. Millie is a short haired cat in her senior years with a bit of arthritis so sleeps most of the day inside and at night, and has a tablet in powder form in her food once a day.
The chickens (2 roosters, 5 hens) are free-range but we close their hen-house door each night and open it again each morning to muffle any enthusiastic early morning crowing (as much for us as the lovely neighbours!). Also need to change their hen-house hay every 2 weeks, hay is provided.
Collect the mail and eggs, keep the house tidy, communicate with us via and to let us know how things are going.
For 14 years, we have owned a lovely 2 bedroom wooden cottage on an acre of gardens in Swanson, in the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park.
Our property is very private with mature trees, and a small fruit orchard and a stream running through, with lots of native birds. We compost our organic material, and recycle where we can.
Close to west coast beaches (20 mins by car), 2 main shopping centres with restaurants & cinemas (7 mins by car), local shops for essentials, movie hire, hairdresser, butcher and wine shop (8 mins walk), walk to train station direct to Auckland city (50 min journey). If you like bushwalking, there are loads of stunning walks through the Ranges. We also have fantastic neighbours who are very good friends. We have bicycles for use, an outdoor fire on nights of stargazing. All the usual mod cons in the house.
Must love cats and provide cuddles and a lap and perhaps the odd groom with a brush - which she loves!
Being winter, the house does get cold, but we have a very efficient wood burner with plenty of chopped wood available in the garage so you must be fit to bring in barrow loads at a time. We also have electric oil heaters. No gardening required but feel free to get your fingers dirty!
