Oberlin is a charming college town about 50 minutes from Cleveland. Its art museum has a good collection. Tennis courts, bike path, hiking are all nearby. In 30 mins you can get to Lake Erie or in 50 mins to Cleveland, where you can find excellent museums, ethnic restaurants and sports. Further inland, you can visit Amish country. Oberlin itself has an interesting history, documented in the Oberlin Heritage Center, and was part of the underground railroad.
For a quiet and pleasant time in the country, you couldn't ask for a better place.
