We have a beautiful home in an ex-Pat community in central Mexico and two very friendly Cocker Spaniels, Dino and Dina.
The house has three bedrooms and four baths, beautiful gardens and is conveniently located in the village of Ajijic, walking distance from galleries, restaurants, grocery stores, movies and the lake, which is blocks away.
The excellent weather is due to a micro-climate that maintains comfortable temperatures all year long. Our rainy season extends from June through September, although it rains mainly at night. The surrounding mountains are green and lush then.
Other than taking care of our dogs, there is minimal work for a house sitter to do. We have a housekeeper who is at the house three half-days a week and a gardener who maintains the gardens three half-days a week. They live very close by and are very friendly.
If a house sitter knows some Spanish, it would be helpful, but not required. Because there are so many Americans and Canadians who live here either full or part time, most business and restaurant employees know at least some English. Most ex-Pats are retired, although the average age of those living here has been steadily dropping, with the addition of young families.
There are many activities here, no matter what one likes to do. You can be a hermit or be very active, depending on your taste. Guadalajara is 45 minutes away, for excellent shopping and sightseeing. We have a 4-wheel ATV that can be used around the village. Unfortunately, our US-plated car can not be used, but very inexpensive rentals are available.
