My ideal caretaker is someone who likes peace and quiet, will be home every night to sleep and around enough that my dog doesn't feel abandoned. A tidy person who considers it a fair exchange to stay in my home without expenses and care for my dog in return. It's an easy location to be if you come without a car, our public transport is very good, clean & simple to navigate in this area.
I'm looking for someone who will give my dog TLC while I am away, take in the mail, water patio plants and look after my home. I rent, so obviously one concern is that you would keep up the place so well that there is no negative impact on my rental situation. We are in a great walking neighborhood of SW Portland, just south of downtown. Right on the bus line and close to several excellent yoga studios, wooded walking trails, coffee shops and a 5 min bus ride will have you in downtown Portland proper, bursting with restaurants, bars, galleries, the art museum, a world-class farmer's market, Powell's City of Books and theaters for plays or movies.
I live west of the river up on a hill between (Barbour Blvd and Terwilliger), on the first floor of a 1910 duplex, not a large place, (1 bedroom, 1 bathroom-approx 600 sq ft) but very comfortable. It's a quiet house, (and neighborhood) with only one neighbor upstairs who is a personal chef and really nice. My place has a great covered back porch with views to the east of the whole valley, river and Mt. Hood. It's very pleasant to sit and enjoy, with breathtaking sunrises! My patio below is shared with the neighbor upstairs and is quite peaceful. My home is serene, with tasteful original art, comfortable furniture and a nice kitchen. The duplex is non-smoking.
My dog is Mia, she is 17 years old, still quite perky, but only requires a short trot down the block each day for exercise. Her bladder isn't what it used to be, so getting out for a quick pee is more like 3x a day. My main concern is that she feel loved and be safe while I am away. She is quirky, but generally very mellow, only 12 lbs, a Bichon-Frise mix and adorable (people remark she looks like a Muppet) She is used to sleeping with in her basket in my bedroom and will spend most of the time sleeping. She does not shed and keeps clean, I have allergies to dogs and have never had any reaction to her.
I will be in Mexico, soaking up some sun and practicing my Spanish. I know I won't be able to relax enough to enjoy my time away unless I feel secure in my arrangements for Mia.
I'd prefer a person who is house-sitting solo because my apartment isn't big and is a bit of a homebody because my primary concern is that my little dog is really loved.
