I am looking for an EXPERIENCED petsitter who truly loves cats and dogs and understands the responsibilities and demands of caring for a multi-cat household.
We recently completed building a wonderful daylight basement/cat "suite" for the cats, which will include a fenced area outside to allow them outside under supervision. Their new "suite" includes cabinetry, sink, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and their new "bedroom" will be full of ladders, scratchers, shelves, perches and other fun things to keep them entertained. (Check out The Cat's House book to get an idea.)
You will have a TV and recliner to relax in while you spoil my "kids" with love and attention in their new suite.
I need someone who lives in the Portland, Oregon area, who would be available off and on throughout the year to STAY in our beautiful home in the country when we travel. This may be for 3-4 days or up to a couple of weeks at a time.
I am not looking for someone to just drop by once or twice a day to feed the pets, but want someone to be here at night and during the day off and on.
I have one outdoor cat who pretty much lives in the garage and has transformed from feral to a lovebug, and he often lounnges inside in my new office. I have 12 indoor-only cats, one of which is rather shy and needs an insulin shot twice a day for diabetes. Another one needs monitoring for an auto-immune condition and receives medication daily (easy to pill) - he is very happy and his condition continues to improve.
We have two dogs, one is elderly, but enjoys short walks. We also have a Llaso mix, about 2 years old, adopted from a local rescue group who took him off death row from a local shelter that ran out of room and his time was up (after only 10 days in the shelter!)
All of the cats were adopted from a shelter or I found them abandoned as strays out here in the country. They are used to having me care for them, not my husband, so they are more comfortable with women.
The ideal petsitter would be someone who would feel at ease staying alone in the country. We have an alarm system and video monitoring and neighbors are not too far away. You will need to understand the alarm system for the home and barn. There are no livestock, horses nor land upkeep to worry about.
We live about 35 minutes southwest of downtown Portland, within 10 minutes access to either I-5 or Highway 99, in the general area of Sherwood/Wilsonville/Newberg.
I am looking for someone who would be around most of the time; a part-time job would be fine, but if you work a full-time job and would only be home in the early morning and evening, this would not be a good fit. This petsitting position will not provide a steady income, but would be ideal for someone who works from home and would enjoy peace and quiet, or a younger retiree with a retirement income, who would enjoy some extra spending money.
I expect my petsitter to enjoy my pets and my home and take good care of both.
My veterinarians know me well and their office is within 15 minutes of my home, should my animals need medical care, or if you had any questions. When we travel, I am almost always available by phone.
If you enjoy the fun and understand the challenges of caring for a house full of pets and your dream "job" would be to be surrounded by animals, each with their own unique personality, then you are someone I would be interested in talking to.
If you’re interested, please and tell me about yourself, your experience caring for animals, and why you are interested in learning more about this petsitting opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you.
