I am completing my graduate work and need to relocate for approximately nine weeks. We have 2 dogs (golden retrieve/border collie, shepard/husky) and 2 cats (shorthair and longhair).
My house is located in a quiet setting, about a mile from a small village. The house is a historical cobblestone (small), that is surrounded by farm land. The upkeep is minimal (no pool or other fancy attachments). The animals are somewhat self-sufficient in that they can be let out on their own when someone is here. They don't take walks, they will be groomed prior to our departure, and currently are healthy (read - no medications to dispense). Their vet can make housecalls if needed.
I have a four-wheel drive SUV because the gravel driveway can get wind blown, although I have a plow guy that is terrific and can accommodate plow service for 2-wheel drive cars (he is very reasonable).
I kill my own houseplants regularly, so not to worry.
If you need people nearby, do not like still, quiet nights, or are afraid of darkness, you may not be comfortable here. Also, if dogs that bark for apparently no reason will freak you out, you may not be comforable here.
I'm pretty casual, have never hired someone to take care of the house this long either.
